Abstract: Article about a study in which
40 persons with myopathic disease and dysphagia were evaluated
by dynamic swallow videofluoroscopy and compared wit 16 normal
controls. There was no significant difference in mesopharyngeal
transit time between the myopathic group and the control group.
There was a significant difference between the myopathic group
and control group for hypopharyngeal transti time (p<.004)
and total pharyngeal transit time (p<.002). There was no difference
between matched pairs for pharyngeal transit times between
room temperature and iced bolus for participants with myotonic
dystrophy, polymyositis or limb-girdle syndrome. Aspiration
was seen on videofluoroscopy in 20% of participants.
