Prenancy and Parenting

As a parent with a disability, a prospective parent with a disability or parent of a child with a disability, you are bound to have many questions. We have provided some useful websites and organizations that can answer a variety of questions. The Baby Center can answer questions regarding feeding, sleeping, etc., during preconception through the toddlers years while Dr. Sandra Welner M.D. from the Sexual Health Network is an Ob/Gyn specializing in individuals with disabilities. All of these website should be very useful in answering your questions, and if you need more information they all provide contact numbers.

The Baby Center website provides general information for everyone regarding topics such as preconception, pregnancy, babies, and toddlers. Under each topic they provide extensive information regarding feeding, sleeping, fitness development, and more.

The Sexual Health Network: Dr. Sandra Welner M.D.
The Sexual Health Network provides this website in which women with disabilities ask various questions regarding sex, pregnancy, parenting, and more. Dr. Sandra Welner M.D., also a member of the disabled community, answers the questions. She is an ob-gyn specialist in women's health and disability and is currently a clinical assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC. This website provides more information as well as the questions and answers of others.

Through the Looking Glass
Through the Looking Glass is a non-profit community organization that provides information to parents with disabilities. They are a National Resource Center for Parents With Disabilities. Their mission is to empower and disseminate disability-appropriate information to parents and potential parents with disabilities. This website provides a product catalog of their adaptive parenting equipment including a description of the product and how to order it. In addition, there is information about contacting the organization if you have any questions or comments.
